Course Overview
The Spinal Neurosurgery: Surgical Techniques and Perioperative Management Strategies course is an intensive 5-day program designed for veterinarians seeking to advance their knowledge and practical skills in veterinary spinal surgery and neurosurgery.
Combining comprehensive lectures, surgical demonstrations, and extensive hands-on laboratory sessions, this course provides a structured approach to the diagnosis, surgical treatment, stabilization, and perioperative management of spinal disorders in dogs and cats.
Participants will learn how to accurately localize spinal cord lesions, interpret advanced diagnostic imaging, select appropriate surgical techniques, and manage patients before and after surgery to optimize clinical outcomes.
What You Will Learn
Neuroanatomical localization of cervical, thoracolumbar, brachial plexus, and lumbosacral lesions
Diagnostic imaging of the spine, including radiography, myelography, CT, and MRI
Preoperative and postoperative management of spinal surgery patients
Cervical ventral slot procedures
Hemilaminectomy, mini-hemilaminectomy, and corpectomy techniques
Atlantoaxial and thoracolumbar stabilization procedures
Cervical distraction-fusion surgery
Lumbosacral decompression and stabilization
Advanced surgical approaches to the thoracic and cervical spine
Extensive Hands-on Surgical Training
A key feature of this course is the large proportion of practical training. Participants will perform essential and advanced spinal procedures under expert supervision, gaining valuable experience with surgical instrumentation, decompression techniques, spinal stabilization methods, and complex reconstructive procedures.
Through step-by-step demonstrations and guided laboratory sessions, attendees will develop the confidence and technical proficiency required to manage challenging spinal surgery cases in clinical practice.
